In December 2017 is a newly described subspecies Escobaria abdita subsp. tenuispina Perez Badillo , Delladdio et Raya Sanchez.
The description was published in the Piante Grasse journal.
The Taxon was described on the basis of the plants collected by George Hinton (29727) in Municipio Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico. Holotype has been saved in the herbarium GBH (the information incorporated from
IPNI).
